Korean War
From 1950 to1953
The Korean war was a war that occurred after the Second World war. This war was between North Korea and South Korea. After the Second World war, allies entrusted the United States and the Soviet Union with the responsibility of keeping control of Korea. The US and the Soviet Union mutually accepted the conditions by having the US take control of South Korea, and then then the Soviets took responsibility in the North. Over the next few years, the Soviet Union created a communist government, and then the US created its government, based on democracy. Even with the new government, there were many tensions between the two states/government. The Korean War began when the North Korean Communists army crossed the 38th Parallel and invaded non-communist, South Korea. The 38th Parallel was the border between North and South Korea. The attack on South Korea was not created by the Soviet Union, but by the government of North Korea, and the Soviet Union quickly lost control of the invasion of South Korea. In the north of Korea, being armed with tanks, and other machinery, the South was quickly overrun until the US stepped in. The US Navy was sent over to push back forces coming from North Korea, and there were 21 other nations sending troops to help South Korea. Australia became involved after 5 months of the war and was the second nation to aid South Korea, with troops, medical supplies, and other weapons. Australia served with the US and South Korea for three years until it all abruptly ended on the 19th of June 1953 with an agreement of armistice between the North Korean government, and the US. The armistice peace form was signed at 10 am on the 27th of July 1953, ending three-years, one month, and two days of the war in Korea.
