Malaya Emergency:
Description of artwork…
This conflict was slightly challenging to pinpoint an exact topic. As I searched for a while on internet images with ‘Malayan Emergency’ in my search bar, there was a variety of images that popped up. From soldiers doing target practice, people sharing a cigarette, men trudging through a jungle, or soldiers stationed at a campsite, there was one thing in common, and that was that in basically every image, the background was of the jungle. This was generally overgrown vegetation and tall trees of many varieties. Looking at my artwork, I included a soldier looking downwards, with long grass in the backdrop of the person, to resemble that jungle background that I continuously saw while investigating this conflict. Since there were so many varieties of images that popped up during my search of the Malayan Emergency, I didn’t mind too much what my character in this part of my artwork, was doing. I had an opportunity to do something here, so I choose a soldier looking downwards, almost as a sign of respect for possibly someone who had passed or been killed while serving his county.
