Anglo-Iraqi War
From 1940 to 1941
The Anglo-Iraqi war was a British-allied military campaign during the second world war. This war was against the Kingdom of Iraq, under Rashid Gaylani, who had seized power in 1941, in the area, with assistance from Germany and Italy. The campaign resulted in the downfall of the Gaylani government, the re-occupation of Iraq by the British, and the return to power of Prince Abd al-Jlah, a British ally. Australia was involved by providing air and naval support to the United Kingdom. This war ended four weeks later when a truce/ceasefire was agreed upon.
