Russian Civil War
From 1918 to 1920
The Russian civil war was a conflict that happened in Russia after the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917. After this revolution, Russia descended into a terrible and brutal war that involved two major armies. The first army was called the Red army. This Army was communist and was fighting for the new Bolshevik government. The second major army was the White army which consisted of loosely allied groups, which were all anti-communist. Australia was one of many other countries that served in Russia during this war. Australia had several thousand troops sent over to Russia to serve and train. Many Australians were sent to fight in Don Cossacks, Ukraine. This war ended in 1920 when Australia withdrew from the war. After this withdrawal the Red Army quickly won a victory over the White Army, leaving the Bolshevik government reigning victory, and the Soviet Union coming into existence in Russia after.
